Exploring Dar es Salaam - walking guided tour
Visit some of the most famous sights in Dar es Salaam, such as Kariakoo Market, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, National Museum and House of Culture, Askari Monument, and Mwenge Woodcarvers Market. Overnight in Dar es Salaam
Day 4
Date : October 17, 2026
Morogoro + Arrival at the Mission. Train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro (scenic route, about 3 hrs). Arrival in Morogoro and check-in at the Missionary of the Poor Brothers. Evening prayer/activities with the Brothers
Day 5
Date : October 18, 2026
At the Mission we will participate in ministry activities, visit the local community served by the Brothers, tour of the Mission grounds, meeting local people, and eat dinner with the Brothers, and cultural interaction
Day 6
Date : October 19, 2026
Safari Day – Mikumi National Park. Early morning departure for Mikumi National Park (third largest National Park in Tanzania). Full-day game drive/ See elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions, antelopes, hippos. Packed lunch inside the park. Return to Morogoro in the evening
Day 7
Date : October 20, 2026
Trip to the Falls. After breakfast, visit Choma Waterfalls and embark on a guided hike. Waterfall experience, enjoy the scenery, swim in natural pools, and relax. Meet villagers and learn about local customs. Return to the mission for dinner and rest
Day 8
Date : October 21, 2026
Travel Back to Dar es Salaam. Morning train back to Dar es Salaam. In the afternoon, we will ferry to Zanzibar and check in at the hotel in Zanzibar. Dinner and free time
Day 9
Date : October 22, 2026
Free day at the beach. Enjoy a relaxed day on the beach with time for swimming, sunbathing, and exploring at your own pace. Sunset dhow boat cruise (optional)
Day 10
Date : October 23, 2026
Stone Town + Spice Farm Tour and Turtle Island. Visit a spice plantation to learn about the cultivation of cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, coffee, pepper, and turmeric. Enjoy a local cuisine lunch and then visit Prison Island (Turtle Island). Visit Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore the colorful market. For those who want to stay back - free time/ shopping or beach relaxation
Day 11
Date : October 24, 2026
Jozani Forest, Rock Restaurant, Mtendeni Beach and Paje Beach. Tour Destinations: Jozani Forest, Rock Restaurant, Mtendeni Beach, and Paje Beach. Jozani Forest Highlights: Home to endemic colobus monkeys and a mangrove forest. Beach Activities: Relaxing on the white sand and swimming in the crystal-clear waters of Paje Beach. Transfer to northern beaches. Swimming, snorkeling, or turtle sanctuary visit. Sunset on pristine white-sand beaches
Day 12
Date : October 25, 2026
Boat day with swimming and lunch. Boat trip to small islands around Zanzibar, including a vanishing island. Swimming in turquoise waters, snorkeling on reefs with exotic fish and coral. Lunch with fresh seafood, visit to a fallen baobab tree, sailing to a blue lagoon, and souvenir shopping. Relaxation in the afternoon. Final group dinner

Departure to Chicago
Transfer to Zanzibar Airport. Flight home to Chicago

Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure.
Visa: Issued upon arrival in Zanzibar. Mandatory fee: $100 (paid individually).
INSURANCE
As of October 1, 2024, Zanzibar requires mandatory tourist insurance valid for up to 92 days. It includes medical assistance, evacuation, accidents, and theft.

Beginning January 2026, the same mandatory tourist insurance will also apply to Mainland Tanzania.

Local time: + 9 hours.
CURRENCY
Local currency: TZS (Tanzanian Shilling).
We recommend bringing US dollars (issued after 2009—older bills may not be accepted) and exchanging them locally.
Credit cards are accepted in hotels and restaurants, but cash is essential.
WEATHER
Daytime temperatures: 65–90 F; nighttime: about 70 F.
Generally warm and sunny, with possible short showers (especially in Zanzibar).
Weather conditions can vary significantly between Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania.
We recommend checking the forecast 3 days before departure.
ELECTRICAL OUTLETS
An adapter for UK-style plugs (three rectangular pins) is required.
A power bank is recommended.
CLOTHING & PACKING LIST

INTERNET
We recommend keeping your phone on airplane mode throughout the trip and using hotel/mission Wi-Fi
HEALTH
Vaccinations are not mandatory for entry (yellow fever vaccination is only required if arriving from a high-risk country such as Kenya, Ethiopia, or Uganda).
Recommended vaccinations: Hepatitis A & B, typhoid fever, tetanus/diphtheria/polio.
Malaria is present in both Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania. Avoid mosquito bites by using repellents such as MUGGA DEET. Mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk, particularly near bodies of fresh water.

SAFETY
Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania are generally safe. However, avoid carrying large amounts of visible cash or valuable items and refrain from walking alone at night.
Please respect local customs—outside the beach areas, clothing should be modest.
TIPPING
Tipping is at your discretion but customary and appreciated. In many cases, tips are a primary source of income for service workers.
Suggested amounts: 1–5 USD.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Since June 1, 2019, there is a strict ban on importing and using plastic bags (regardless of thickness).
Duty-free allowance: 1 liter of alcohol + 200 cigarettes.
